“Tropical Being,” the name that goes by Philistine’s business, is a unique line of hats catering to women wanting to look their ultimate best on their vacations. Since her very early childhood, Philistine has held the prospect of traveling very near and dear to heart. Growing up in different cities and countries piqued her desire to travel the world and learn more about herself. With the same motive, Philistine wants to carry forward her brand and inspire women of color to travel in whatever fashion they may please. She also wants them to learn about what it means to enjoy themselves and recognize their individuality for what it is.
Philistine’s brand has met great success. Within the first month of its launch date, Philistine achieved a huge milestone by selling out two of her hat designs. The core value of her brand resonates with her on a deeper level as she believes it’s the brainchild of the diverse experiences she has accumulated over the past few years. Philistine has been extremely grateful to her parents for introducing her to a world that shaped her outlook. Philistine also works as a full-time nurse and runs a travel blog on Instagram, apart from spearheading her successful venture.
At the outset, she encountered a few hurdles on her journey to becoming a travel content creator. Her blog on Instagram didn’t take off in the manner she hoped it would. It was not until she had reached out to mentors Samia Jay, and Nikki that things started looking up for her. Through her travel content, Philistine aims to convey the idea of enjoying the luxuries and comforts of life to the fullest and not being ashamed to acknowledge it. She believes that women of color need to be okay with splurging and pampering themselves now and then in whatever capacity they can. For Philistine, traveling is the best way of indulging in self-care.
