Jason Borkland has been photographing his underwater adventures since his diving PADI certification in 2016, and he can’t imagine stopping.
A passionate master diver, he claims diving is a window to a new world of discovery and boundless adventure. It takes you to a new universe, and with time, Jason has realized that it is our responsibility as citizens of the planet to preserve and save not just all that is above the ground, in our sight, but also everything under the deep blue sea.
And how exactly does Jason contribute to that? Through breathtaking underwater photography and videography that is known to send shivers down spines, leaving the audience in awe.
There is no denying the fact the underwater world is beautiful. But that is not the only reason for Jason’s efforts to capture what that world contains. The content creator has been trying to build a positive change in the current marine environment through individual awareness and education. His work with Humpback Whales, Mantas, Hammerheads, and sharks is used to tell stories and frame the audience’s perspective, stirring a sense of responsibility and urgency in them to preserve these wonderful creatures. Aside from that, the scientific community uses his imagery and technical diving skills for documentation and research purposes.
Some of the masterpieces of Jason Borkland’s imagery include Hammerheads swimming with ease alongside the courageous diver with a caption.
“To be in the blue with these beautiful, peaceful scalloped Hammerheads is truly life-changing! You can’t help yourself; you fall in love with them! Once you learn of all the issues that are removing sharks from our planet, you become a shark Conservationist!.”
He has also captured white sharks swimming with their entourage of pilotfish, friendly
Mantas and bottlenose dolphins. Each capture tells a unique story and compels the audience not just to be mesmerized but also to commit to the cause. Check out his fantastic collection of content here @jasonborkland.
Award-Winning artist, conservationist, and photographer Jim Abernethy describes Jason’s surreal videography from Socorro Islands in these words, “ These magical islands never disappoint! It is our wish that these beautiful creatures will inspire you to protect our underwater world! What an incredibly beautiful scene and experience Jason has captured here! Wildlife Experiences like this definitely change people’s perspective on nature! It draws them into something they may never see themselves in! For many, it inspires them to become wildlife conservationists once they learn that Manta Rays are being hunted all over the planet just for their gills which some cultures have proclaimed these gills to have magical qualities, none of which are true! If this inspires you, please research Mantas and the conservation efforts already in place and become part of the entities that are saving them!”
The oceans are definitely not safe, and conservation efforts are complicated. Our marine ecosystems need to be saved, and people like Jason Borkland keep a sense of hope alive by dedicating their lives to marine conservation, making genuine efforts, and stoking the consciousness of the general audience.
