Competition in the beauty industry is infinitely fierce. While most brands are justified in their struggle to get more customers to agree to their idea, the customer can get confused about how to make the right choice. Dipika Gupta is a fantastic fashion designer with a recently launched vegan skincare line, and she has specific ideas to help the vegan skincare aficionado make the right product choice.

Coming from a solid North Indian heritage, she has been exposed to diverse traditions and cultures, which made her focus on acceptance and inclusion at all levels of society. Dipika’s vegetarian background is the basis for her brand KAVI KAVI. She believes her success is primarily due to her family’s deeply rooted organic lifestyle.

Vegan skincare benefits every skin type; however, Dipika says you should know what to look for and what not to select when choosing vegan beauty products. She suggests keeping an out for the following signs to ensure you are buying an original vegan product instead of getting stuck in a hoax:

  1. When buying a vegan skincare product, you should clearly understand vegan skin care. Dipika says that vegan skincare describes, as the name suggests, the application of purely plant-based products on the skin. These products contain no artificial or synthetic additives. Therefore, they are of plant origin and completely natural. However, things can get confusing if you’re a first-time buyer.
Among other things, Dipika believes that vegan brands should clear the clutter on their social media to help customers easily reach their required product. She believes that beauty brands should act with social responsibility in their mind. While a good marketing strategy is essential for success, it should be based on the accurate picture of a brand’s offerings.
  2. There are ways to tell if a beauty product is genuinely vegan or not – there is a deep mistrust of the beauty industry, and with good reason. Dipika repeatedly tries to ensure that her customers know what they invest in when they buy a vegan product. She says that the FDA doesn’t necessarily regulate the ingredients in beauty products as carefully as it should, and they also don’t regulate many beauty product claims such as “natural” or “clean” as there is no actual definition.
The good news is that accredited organizations other than the FDA certify beauty products as vegan. Dipika says there are four different third-party certifications for vegan beauty products, which come from trusted sources, Vegan Action, Vegan Society, PETA, and the Vegetarian Society. She suggests that customers look for seals on their beauty products before buying them to ensure they are vegan.
  3. Moreover, many companies also list cruelty-free or vegan brands on their websites. If you want to take your due diligence to the next level, you can also check the ingredients included in the product specification. Look out for (possibly) animal-based ingredients like beeswax, lanolin, keratin, biotin, elastin, and squalene, and remember that some of these (like keratin and biotin) may be plant-based. You can also visit the brand website for more information on their policies and ethics.

Dipika’s brand KAVI KAVI is all about transparency with customers, and she constantly tries to spread awareness about why vegan products are more beneficial for skin care. For her, it is a way of life as she says, “I was born into vegetarianism, and for generations, this has been our path. It has greatly influenced our values, so having a Vegan brand is very important to me.”
