Steffi Rodigas: A Modern Art Maven’s Tale of Imagination

Dreams add meaning to life, giving a reason to live and smile. They might be overlooked at times, but trust me, they never die. People who get to live their dreams early in life are indeed inspiring, but even more fascinating are those who make it happen when the world deems it impossible. 

Meet expert artist Steffi Rodigas, who made her lifelong dream of becoming an artist come true at age 58. She gracefully defeated all the life challenges that hindered her passion for art and creativity. 

Born and raised in the middle of Germany in the Thuringian Forest, which has always captured Steffi’s imagination. Also, her passion for art was awakened by her grandparents, who made beautiful Christmas ornaments.

Imagine sitting under a lush green tree for hours, keenly observing the mesmerizing creatures that add to the beauty of Earth. Wouldn’t it feel surreal? Similarly, Steffi spent her childhood playing outdoors, cherishing the wonders of nature that can be merely described in words. 

As she enrolled in school, art instantly became her favourite subject. Creativity was always her strength, whether in school or at home. 

After graduating from high school, Steffi was pushed into studying to be a teacher. In order not to completely renounce her passion for art, she decided to become an elementary school teacher with an art component.

At least she could encourage the students with her talent and expertise in art. This work fit Steffi’s creative parameters, and she was very successful. However, various circumstances, such as moving and having a second child, forced her to change her job.

Soon, Steffi made it to the Christmas ornaments-making business — a job that was not only creative but also a significant part of her childhood. Things went smoothly until the incident of the Berlin Wall that resulted in Steffi losing her job. 

With the responsibility of two children, Steffi couldn’t sit back and relax. Once again, life challenged Steffi to give up on her dreams and compromise. This time was more difficult as Steffi practiced odd jobs like insurance representative, saleswoman, and newspaper girl to make ends meet. 

Steffi started a transport company and was on the road with a van and a trailer until the birth of her daughter. After a one-year course in accounting and finance, Steffi returned to education. For 16 years, she worked as a social educator and school principal. For many years she did her job well and with pleasure, but it developed as no longer satisfactory.

Therefore, on her first visit to New Zealand, Steffi decided to quit her job as a social pedagogue to do what she loves most: art. With a vision to preserve views that might be lost in this fast-paced world, she embarked on this new journey. 

Since 2018, she has been going her way with a lot of diligence, dedication, inventiveness and inquisitive learning through online courses. Steffi has created countless artworks in several fields.

Her own technique in abstract art and sculptures made of an unusual material are also among her artworks, which have been seen in many countries on 4 continents. Her works have been honored with 13 international art awards. Likewise, her artworks can be found in numerous art magazines and covers and adorn many walls internationally.
