When it comes to pain and trauma, musicians are no different than the rest of us. However, they translate their emotions into their art, creating masterpieces and moving people’s hearts. “Minutes, Seconds, Degrees,” the latest album by the indie rock band, The Locals, fronted by Yvonne Doll, was born out of loss and substantial life challenges that have come her way.
An experienced tech professional, a rock singer, and an accomplished abstract painter – Yvonne Doll has been playing with people’s heartstrings for decades with her catchy tunes, relatable lyrics, and evocative voice.
The production of this album had been a” bittersweet experience”, as Yvonne calls it, incorporating her personal experience of loss and pain with music. From being diagnosed with Meniere’s disease to facing the devastating loss of her best friend, Yvonne experienced physical and emotional damage.
Every track of the album resonates with the tragedies Yvonne has faced over the past couple of years. “Time Bomb Sounds” projects the pain of breakup of a 22 year marriage; “Eyes Wide Open” translates the state of shock over the sudden loss of a close friend; and “Atlas Wye,” an instrumental piece, says goodbye to her friend because no words could’ve done justice to the void her friend left.
However, with every decline, there is a climb for the resilient ones. Yvonne fought back into the face of adversity with her music and got an advanced hearing aid to improve her day-to-day communications, which she happily talked about on her Website. Reflecting on hardships, she said, ‘I think we’re a lot like those weeds that grow between cracks in the sidewalk… We seek the sun and grow despite the odds.’ A sheer example of strength and positivity.
Yvonne Doll’s The Locals has been around for over two decades, performing all around the US and UK. ‘Minutes, Seconds, Degrees’ isn’t their only masterpiece, as so far, they’ve released a total of seven albums, all loved by the audience. Their music is born out of human sentiments to which every soul can relate.
