It takes a lot of courage to do the unusual and take the path less trodden. Uncertainties and doubts about the unknown cast fear in hearts. Breaking boundaries and ignoring taboos can result in social alienation, and not all are brave enough to put their happiness before these societal pressures. However, Francesca Chang, a life coach, and travel blogger set a different example; she took a road not many can dare to set foot on and turned her journey to the unknown into an immensely inspiring story. She is a beacon of light for those who prioritize peace and contentment over social norms and redundant values.
Law is a highly valued profession, and those who make it till the end are thought to be lucky. A significant degree of social acceptance and appreciation is linked to this profession. Once you graduate, you are expected to follow professional etiquette and enjoy the prestige that’s part and parcel of being a lawyer. For Francesca, things were moving in the opposite direction. She became anxious, lost hair, gained weight, and lost her self-confidence. The doctors even thought that she had kidney stones while studying for the California Bar exam. In short, she was a complete mess before she was even licensed.
Soon after bar exams, the outlier in the making said her final goodbyes to the law and all that it entailed. The suffocating environment, the joyless work, and the depressing red tape were eliminated in one decisive blow. It was a huge decision; she was throwing years of hard work and the social prestige of the profession out the window. It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary to reclaim herself. The battle was between her mental peace/happiness and her profession; Francesca chose herself, and it was one awesome choice, as time proved it!
Without a mentor or career coach to guide her, she experienced six different professions, many disappointments, and even a stint of unemployment. But she also gained invaluable job experience and basic marketing and business skills that so many lawyers lack. Ultimately, Francesca Chang traveled to her father’s homeland, Taiwan, to reclaim and rediscover her cultural roots. It was a path leading to her soul, but it proved much more than that later. Wandering in her ancestral homeland brought peace and purpose to her and alongside came money as she became a paid travel blogger for Taiwan.
Francesca was enjoying the time of her life, sharing her adventures with her followers through her blog, “Attorney on a Journey,” when she started receiving messages from lawyers and all kinds of people for career advice. They were inspired by her story and wanted to break out of vicious circles of professions that weren’t serving their happiness. Francesca, a soul yearning to help others find purpose in life, rose to the occasion and became a life coach.
Francesca found her purpose in leading others out of predatory situations that ate upon their hearts and souls and deprived them of purpose and happiness. She helped turn lawyers into business people, videographers into NASA engineers, and moms into successful working ladies.
In short, Francesca helps her clients find their real potential by either strategizing toward an upgrade or leaving a toxic situation altogether and moving into a completely different but compatible plane. She enables people to reach diverse, fulfilling futures and live their best lives.
