Sex education often falls short when it comes to serving the needs of women, particularly those of color, but not anymore. Devi Ward Erickson, a clinical sexologist and certified tantric healer, drives the movement with her groundbreaking Authentic Tantra Healing program, Tantra Mastery for Women of Color. This curriculum was designed to provide women of color with an accessible pathway to a Master’s Degree in Tantra, and learning to use pleasure as medicine for healing and liberation.
Devi Ward Erickson is a true pioneer in the field of Tantra. She has been teaching and practicing Tibetan tantric shamanistic healing methods since 2008. In addition to her time spent as a monk in the Ishaya order, which began in 1999, her experience as a practitioner also includes five years of intensive training with a Tibetan Buddhist Shaman . IATE was founded on the principle of making tantra education available to all people in North America, regardless of race, background, or ethnicity, with a particular focus on those who have been historically and are currently underrepresented and underserved.
Living in North America, Devi Ward understands that much of the West presents and promotes Tantra to white-bodied people, who may not understand the unique requirements that women of color have with regard to their need for healing and support. To this end, she has created a program specifically tailored to serve these individuals in a safe environment predominantly free from racism. Her Tantra Mastery program is much more than formal sexual education; it also includes understanding personal power and the ability to embrace one’s body and sexuality.
This 5.5-month group training program is designed to support women of color in understanding their sexual energy and how it can be used for healing and transformation. Some of the main focuses of the course are listed below:
- Dissolving mental, emotional, and physical armoring
- Repairing and deepening your connection to your body using the healing power of pleasure
- Awakening and expanding the four forms of pleasure; physical, emotional, spiritual, and sexual
- Reestablishing healthy and enriching relationships
- Using pleasure as medicine to unlock your full orgasmic potential
- Healing and transforming most types of modern sexual dysfunctions
Recently, IATE has partnered with globally accredited Ubiquity University to provide the first-ever “Master of Arts in Authentic Tantra.” This program will not only allow the IATE students to advance their coursework to graduate degrees but also boosts the reputation of Authentic Tantra on a global scale.
Devi Ward Erickson’s pioneering work with IATE has opened the door to sex education for all women, regardless of race or background. With her guidance, women of color can access their full spiritual potential and ignite their inner fire through the practice of Tantra.
